The United Way of Bedford County is a 501(c)(3) organization that raises money for health and human service non-profit agencies serving the citizens of Bedford County.
Organized in 1987, the United Way of Bedford County has allocated over 1.8 million dollars to various agencies throughout the county over the past 22 years. Without a United Way in Bedford County and the funds raised and allocated each year, agencies such as the local American Red Cross Office would find it very difficult to maintain a local presence. All of the United Way's 14 current Community Partners rely heavily on funding from the United Way to maintain the services they provide to local residents.
The funds collected by the United Way on an annual basis are dollars raised through the generous donations of many businesses and organizations, not only in Bedford County but throughout the United States. An even greater portion of the annual giving campaign comes from employees of county businesses through payroll deduction, as well as the generosity of county residents and people throughout America with ties to Bedford County. Other financial resources are gained through various staff and volunteer led fundrasiers throughout the year. All monies raised in Bedford County stay in Bedford County!
Funds are also received from other United Ways (as designated by individuals or companies), the SECA (State Employees Common Appeal) and the CFC (Combined Federal Campaign). During the last campaign funds in the amount of $48,000 were received from these entities. Without the presence of the United Way of Bedford County these funds would have gone elsewhere.
The United Way of Bedford County is a member of the United Way of Pennsylvania and the United Way of America. Membership in these organizations allow the local United Way to use the United Way brand and both support us with resources as needed or requested.
